Saturday started off slow for us. I fished with a friend and we went for about the first 4 hours with nothing but a couple half hearted tugs on the line. No hook ups and no follows. Things were looking grim at one of my hottest locations so we switched to a weed line that produced a nice fish last weekend. I pulled out a Bomber Herky Jerky Jr and went to work. I was sure there would be fish in this location, and the sun, wind and weather conditions were perfect. About 10 minutes at this spot and it was game on. I started with a fat 26"er, and within the next 45 minutes to an hour the two of us had put 7 pike in the boat with 6 of them going 30-35" and ranging rom 7 to 11+ pounds. Check out the smile on his face. I love it when I put someone on their first pike or a new PB. At one point I caught and released a 10 pounder and an 11 pounder on 3 casts. My partner for the day released his personal best, bagging a 35" 11 pound 3ozer. The fish were definitely there and hungry. Unfortunately I had to get back early for a previous obligation, so we headed back to the boat launch and left a few for the next trip. Man I hate previous obligations in October.
Water temp was 54 all day and the fish were in 8-10 feet of water. White or light colored baits were the ticket.
