I went down to the Great Wheel to try squid for the first time. Folks next to me were bringing in one after another while I got nothing. After watching for a while and getting some tips I caught 2 whole squid! I'm giving it a 4 because fishing was good, I just didn't have it down yet and it was a pretty unique experience in urban fishing.

Thanks for the report been wanting to give it a try myself, but it’s a long drive from Spokane, sounds like the wheel has been the place to be

This has been a fairly slow squid season. The guys that can pick off squid after squid when there's not much around are definitely more experienced. That being said, when a good school of aggressive squid comes in, any method with any jig catches squid. Then your hooked......
You really just have to put in the hours to end up at the right place at the right time, the learning curve is not as steep when there is actually a decent number of rowdy squid there. Ive been squidding now for 5 plus years and sometimes cant catch a pound per hour, then week or two ago caught 10 pounds in 1/2 hour. When I first started I remember complaining about the vietnamese guys on both sides of me, outfishing me 10 -1 using basically the same jigs the same way I was..... those are the guys that later taught me how to squid! Keep at it.

Tell a novice what you learned over those 5 years please. PM if needed. I went for the first time to Seacrest. First wave that came in I got my first one ever when targeting them. The seasoned Vets near me got up to 3 that first way. I am sure others had even more.
