The catching was quite a bit slower for us than it was 2 weeks ago. I blame it on the fast moving front that blew through Friday night or maybe the dropping water level? Fishing from a friend's boat, we launched at Ft. Spokane and motored downriver to the goat farm area. We got a late start so that may have had something to do with it, but the day started out really slow. Finally caught a couple of fish on a black/orange/glow fly with 1/2 oz weight off the planer board. I had just suggested we think about relocating when the drag on the planer board rod started squealing (same fly). After what was the best fight of the season (on Roosevelt anyway), we landed and released a beautiful 21" Redband. That fish fought like a steelhead, taking 5 good runs on a pretty tight drag. We caught another hatchery fish shortly after on a pink Uncle Buck's spoon 22' deep off the 'rigger then things grew quiet again.
We then decided to try the Hawk Creek area on our way back toward Ft. Spokane. Nothing happening there so we just trolled along the shore toward 7 Bays. Started marking a lot of fish right out of 7 Bays and caught another couple hatchery fish there about 3:30 then decided to call it a day.
Overall, a slow fishing day so I rated it a 2, but we had a great time catching up with a couple friends I hadn't seen for a while and that one nice fish made our day!
I haven't seen or heard many reports from last weekend, even though a lot of boats were on the water. I'm wondering how people are doing around Keller and Spring Canyon?
