Started the day off at Beaver Lake even though I took the Lake Sammamish Exit as I was hesitant on which lake to start off with.

Fair amount of anglers at Beaver as I put in about 8am. I had 4 strikes and netted and released 3 of them . All the action was on the park side about 2/3 and 3/4 aways down the lake. All strikes were on FF in the color orange. That was enough for me and I left Beaver for Sammamish and was in the water at 11:00am.

Water was perfect but no birds as I launched from the main beach area. Brought my 3wt with Intermediate line instead of type 6 sinking as I had in the past few outing as I was hoping that my fly would be in the strike zone longer than the faster sinking line. Right away I knew that the Boobie Fly combined with the Intermediate line was not my best choice so I tried some weighted flies instead.

I started to see a few birds after over 2 hours of not a strike on the fly and headed out to them. Because I was moving much faster I switched over to my Spinning set up with a size 50 HotShot Black Silver Specs and got smashed before I got to the birds. My first ever Lake Sammy Cutt on a plug! As I got closer to the Birds I switched back to my fly rod but a smaller beaded Olive Woolley Bugger on as I saw rising fish. Not even 5 minutes later I get slammed again but by a very nice CuttBow. Over a course of an hour I had caught 4 Cutt’s and 1 CuttBow and then the wind started to pic up just enough that I could not spot risers.

What I was doing was rowing towards the rising fish at a faster rate then I would have though would be a ideal for my line type to achieve the proper depth. Pretty much all the fish I caught were in the top 5 feet. I think the smaller Bugger was a better presentation for the midge hatch which was a bit stronger this week. I nailed one more as I was rowing in.

Crazy day of not a thing and then it was on fire. The lake flatten out again and I could see rising fish from the shore, but I have had enough. The most Cutt’s in one day on Sammamish, 1st Cutt on a plug and all very good sized. I’ll mark the area in which I was catching these fish.

My pics will be different than what most post....have a look!

Very nice photos. Love the fall colors the trout are displaying.
