So, I have been squidding now 3x. Actually I went once with another friend from NWFR, but I was totally ignorant on technique, etc.
Fast forward to tonight. We were at ‘The Wheel’ as they call it..
squidded from 4:30-7:30 pm. It was not red hot by any means, but... tonight I lost my squid virginity!
You can go an hour or more, and nothing is happening. Your hands are cold, you’re questioning your use of your time.
But then... I broke away from being by my friend’s light.. got crazy... casted WAY out into (the darkness) Bam! Squid on! When you are used to actually fishing, Squid will seem a little odd, obviously there is no peeling drag! Anyway, one in the bucket.
But... then it happened .
A school came through, and it was ‘On like Donkey Kong’. You literally have to immediately get your jig back out there, because the ‘Wave’ May last only 5-10 min. But it was a ‘Squid on!’ Every cast.
I still only came home with a dozen, but that is more than a plate of calamari at the bar, ya know.
This may become an addictive winter evening activity.
