Made the foggy trip to Spring Canyon Saturday. Lots of boats at the ramp. 2 of us motored up-river and started the day fishing in the narrows between Swawilla basin and Keller Ferry. Trolled the south side of the river for about a half hour. No bites and not marking much so we crossed to the North side, seeing promising marks on the fish finder. Mid morning, the bite picked up and we put 6 fish in the livewell and released 4 unclipped fish. Around noon, the sun came out, breeze died and so did the bite, so we trolled back down-river toward Swalilla Basin. Once we reached the point east of Swawilla Basin around 1:30 (on the north side of the river), we had 2 double-hookups of really nice sized wild fish and the bite stayed active until about 2:45 when we decided to head for home in an attempt to beat the freezing fog. We ended up just one short of our limit as the last fish we caught was fin-clipped but only about 14" long so we let it go. Total for the day: 9 in the livewell and 8 released. Best presentations of the day were a pink UV apex (tipped with pink corn) 18' down on the rigger and a black/orange/glow fly with an orange spinner blade(sprayed with R-fly scent and a with a bit of worm) off the planer board with 5/8 oz weight. The picture looks like the spinner is more yellow, but it is orange. We tried slowing down in hopes there would be some kokanee in the area but that seemed to diminish the rainbow bite so we caught most of our fish in the 1.6-1.8 knot range.
