Went targeting smallmouth today. I'm kind of tired of washing my boat after salt fishing so figured we would try to get the 1st bass of the year. Fished alot of open water mostly 12 to 20+ft. Tried dropshot, rattle traps, jerkbaits, swimbaits, grubs, etc. It was a slow day of fishing. Had one follow up on a DS in about 12 ft of water by a nice 15 to 17 inch fish, not sure if it was a trout or bass. Moved down a ways and hit shallower water and my buddy landed a dandy 2 lber using a perch slash bait. It had a 3 to 4lber following it in as well! Fish was caught right at a dock in about 4 ft of water of all things. Water was 48.5 degrees first light and arpund 50.4 when we left about 1pm. Next weekend I'll probably do some afternoon fishing. Glad to get the 1st bass to the boat for the year! Tight lines
