We got a bit of a later start than I would have liked and launched out of Gifford at around 9:15 AM. The water was glass around the launch and we motored down lake to a spot I wanted to check out that I had fished previously with some success the weekend before. Unfortunately, while the inlet around Gifford was wind-free, the area I wanted to fish was far from it and quickly turned us back around the way we came to fish a more sheltered area of the lake. Other than being denied that spot the weather was absolutely fantastic all day! Surface water temp was around 40-41 degrees and we found fish by jigging slowly in 70'-130' FOW. It was not hot and heavy, but we caught enough fish to keep us interested. I was able to get my daughter-in-law on the boat for her first time to go along with her first ever walleye and burbot. We also saw plenty of wildlife and even got some video of a bald eagle taking a fish at the surface. What a beautiful fishery.
