Our group had the opportunity to fish the mighty Skagit river and a certain very distinct tributary of it for a few days earlier this week before the big spring rains came and knocked it out shape. The first day/float we did we had the most action on swung flies and free-drifted 5.5” plastic worms in various colors, with even had an encounter with a few nice bull trout near the mouth of the Sauk river. The second day turned out to be pretty slow as there was a decent enough amount of rain that occurred over night to put the rivers on the rise. All in all, a good sort of ‘exploratory’ couple of days; one of my biggest take-aways from this trip was how clear these rivers run even at sort of high-ish flows currently-which was not usually the case from the late 90’s to early 2000’s when I used to spend a ton of time up there. Can’t wait to get back up there again soon!
