This report is for Monday 4/15 and Thursday 4/18. After getting inspired by fishindoc’s report, decided to head to Sprague. Launched Monday at around 3 on the east end where there used to be a pay can but it has been broken since last year. There were about 4-5 boats trolling around. The fishing was much better than it was for me last year. Trolled over to an area near some rocky shallows and had a solid hookup with an 18.5 rainbow in the 3.5 pound range. Kept going then reversed back through the same area and got 3 more of the same size on each pass. Each one was a solid hookup that buried the rod. Then after about 1.5 hours it seemed to slow down, so I started trolling into outlying areas. After that motored down to the central part of the lake to try some deeper water. Fished until 7 and picked up about 5 more fish in various places, including a couple of dinks. On Thursday got a late morning start and fished from 9-12. The highlight was 19.5 incher that went 4 lbs 5oz. A serious pig, but not the 7 pound monster reported last week. Again it was a fast start with about 4 in the 18+ range but this time there were more dinks mixed in. Lost a few nice ones on the hookup. They seem to hit the air as soon as they felt the hook and we saw the long distance release each time. Not sure why the hookups weren’t solid like Monday, it was the same lure with fresh hooks that were sharpened. The hot lure for 90% of the fish was a 08 size xrap in rainbow trout colors. One of the trout was spitting up large 1 inch red chironomids. Interestingly, caught a small 7 inch yellow perch on the troll. On the way home thurs stopped at Rock Lake to look at the conditions, water at outlet was muddy, but there was some slight visibility (about 1 foot). Probably will wait awhile before trying Rock Lake, there were about 7 trailers in the launch area.

Nice report. Glad you found them. I am always amazed how much fight these fish have compared to some other lakes.

Yeah it was really nice to tie into them for my first trip of the year, nothing like seeing fish go airborne and having something solid on the end of an ultralight rod. I wish they would plant those steelhead in Sprague again, those were some seriously angry fish when hooked.

Great report! Thanks.

My fishing buddy and I are heading over from the west side on Tuesday to check it out. We’re missing salmon fishing so we are exploring. Tight lines.

Watch out for the wind on this lake it can get lousy if the wind is bad, right now wed and thurs look okay. You could do well if you are old hands at salmon trolling, just the water is super shallow in the lake so it is mainly pulling plugs set back 150 feet or more

RWL - Morning- I have never trolled a 08 xrap plug before. I was wondering if you might give me a hint about how it is rigged up, how much of a setback it needs, and how fast it needs to be trolled, etc. Thank you. Denny
