Only had a small window this weekend to fish, so hit Beaver at first light. Fished from 5:45a-8a. Got on the water with a full moon over the park. ~48 degrees and the water was smooth as glass. I didn't see any fish surfacing. Launched the kayak and went looking for any type of risers. Finding none I decided to troll. Put on a Maglip and took off across the lake. Didn't get very far before the rod started bouncing. Pulled in an 8"-10" stocker. Released it and got going again. Didn't take long to get another hit, but it popped off. After that I saw a few fish rising here and there, but wasn't getting any more strikes. Switched to a black Wooly Bugger and played it out behind the kayak without any extra weight. Didn't take long and the rod starts to bouncing. I set the hook and the 6# leader snapped. Hmmm. Either a big fish or a weak leader. I didn't have another black WB, so tied on a brown/red one. Made a loop in front of the park without any action. Tried a spoon I usually have luck with, but nothing on that either. Went out and found an area where some fish were surfacing and broke out the Trout Magnet. First cast and I got a take, but missed it. Nothing after that. Tried twitching a black and a white marabout jig to see if I could find something deeper, but no takes. Trolled the Maglip back to the launch and called it a morning. Was hoping for better action, but still got a little and it was a beautiful morning. Look forward to the next trip.
