This report isn't so much about the fishing or catching part of life but more so the absolute crappy day it turned into.

We decide to get a brand new Lowrance elite 7 ti2With a bunch of fancy widgets on it. Hooked it up turned it on everything seemed in order... Or so we thought. Last thing to do test it on the lake to make sure it works; and here's where we lost the day. Unloaded the boat start the kicker engine and hit the water, we get right up next to the spot we love to fish and turn the fish finder on and nothing.... No depth.... No picture.... No fish.... But hey I can tell how fast I'm going.

Spend three hours trouble shooting on the lake and decide its broken and we've wasted three almost four hours and done nothing... Call cabelas they say bring it back. We disconnect everything take to them and the fish finder guy from Lowrance is in the building. He spends 2 hours trouble shooting it and then we find out it has a corrupted system straight from the factory..... Figures I buy the one faulty brand new fish finder, and the kicker.... They don't have any new ones in stock so I don't even have a replacement yet.

All I can say is oh well I guess im fishing blind tomorrow.

Thanks everyone tightlines

I've had three different Lowrance units over the past few years, and had issues with all of them. Displays that get corrupted, auto depth ranges that randomly switch all over the place. All sorts of odd manifestations. I've since switched to a Garmin, and have seen ZERO issues. I bought one unit at the Lacey Cabelas store, while there was a Lowrance factory rep there. He assured me the model I was looking at supported maps. Yeah, not so much. I've always been the type to do a lot of pre-purchase research. The one time I didn't, I regretted it.

My first Lowrance was on my previous boat when I bought it, and I moved it to the new boat last year. I should have made the switch then. I spent years using Garmin products in aviation, in both recreational flying and search & rescue, and have always been a fan. I think part of it is just that after lots of hours in the air with a device, you get to where you can operate it smoothly and predictably. In the cockpit, simplicity rules - it needs to "just work".

I know lots of guys love the Lowrance products, and if they work for them, that's awesome. Go with what you love. For me, though, it's Garmin from now on.

I hope you get things sorted out and that whatever device you choose gives you great service and makes your fishing more enjoyable.
