I haven't hit my favorite keeper rainbow trout lake for awhile. This is a tough lake to fish. The fish are almost always completely gorged on insect life. There is so much natural feed in the lake it's hard to get their attention. It took me awhile to get dialed in to anything. I eventually did find a brief period where I was able to land 3 all about 5 feet down on a black size 4 wooly bugger, 14 inches of leader behind a Mack's Double D dodger.

There was a bass tournament going on, so the launch was pretty busy when they opened the gates at 7. There were quite a few boats out though trout fishing, I didn't see 1 net out while I was on the water. When I pulled out for the day, talked to some folks that were fishing from the new platforms (they are nice for shore bound anglers) and the report I got from them was they hadn't run into anyone that had pulled out yet that had any fish. While putting everything away I finally ran into someone that said they got 1 for the day. I guess I will consider myself fortunate to have landed 3.

Once the lake warms a bit and the fish start gathering in the 15-25 foot range, they do become a bit easier to target.

It was a beautiful day to be out on the water though, so I can't complain.
