Was hoping the smallies weren't too far into the spawn yet. Fished three hours with only a couple drop shot nibbles to show for it, pretty sure they were perch.
Got the first smallie on a break line near a small flat with scattered rocks. The 3.7 pounder hammered my DT6!
Once that happened I switched between cranks on the break adjacent to the flats and a swim jig around docks and rocks on the flats. This nabbed the biggest of the day at 4.7lbs! The dock this fish (and it's twin that swam to the boat with it) was under was swarmed by some type of baitfish? Trout? Kokanee? Don't know but there was a huge school!
I continued fishing the outside edges of the flats with a crankbait and Texas rig. The docks produced best and most consistently although I could go up to 30 to 60 minutes without a bite.
Spooked a few jumpy males off their beds so I know the are in the process, but looking at the belly on the larger fish, they haven't dropped eggs yet.
