The Packernut and I got out after some pike yesterday, hoping to knock the dust off our catching skills in preparation for our trip to Saskatchewan in a couple of weeks. We managed to find a few pike willing to bite but none of any size. We got 13 pike and 4 bass between the two of us with biggest pike measuring at 27 and a 27 1/2". The fish hit a variety of baits. Spoons, spinner baits, glide baits and lipless crankbaits. They seemed to be in the 6-10 foot water. We didn't see any bigger fish this trip. Makes me think the big girls are still spawning or recovering from the spawn. My guess is that by the time we get back from our Canadian trip, they'll be ready to play.

Weather and water conditions seem to be a little behind where they were last year. This time last year I was finding plenty of fish in the 10 lb. plus range. I gotta say, the gill nets they've put out to wipe out the pike have intruded on a couple of the spots I did well at this time last year. I'm hoping the waters of the Cda fishery get infested with a gillnet eating fish some time soon, but I don't want to get started on that subject. It will just raise my blood pressure. :) Water temps were 56-61 degrees
