I took my buddy Jay, his truck & my boat, and his cousin Adam to Rufus. The morning started out with a bang and within the first hour we had caught 5 eyes and lost two others. I had the hot hand and was throwing a Norisada trout colored blade bait. I landed the largest fish of the day at 11 lbs. I had to have Jay help me get the blade bait out of this pig; she had it three inches down her throat. She was not injured, no blood, and was released after a couple of quick pictures. It is amazing how small most baits look when they are in the mouth of a fish this size. We moved to a couple of other areas near the island and picked up three more quality fish. We ended up keeping five out of the eight and released the other three because they were too big and obviously had not spawned yet. The wind was calm for the first hour but then began blowing at about 20 mph for the rest of the morning. Overall the bite was very slow and we never caught any males; every fish caught was a female with eggs or an already spawned out hen. The water temp was 50 degrees and a couple of our go to places should have been hot but we never got any bites. Called it a day by noon.
