So, I am on a small vacation, road trip from Seattle. Staying in Sandpoint, and later Coeur d’ Alene. I wanted to hit some off the wall beautiful places. Trips like this make you think about retirement living options.
Stopped into North 40 Outfitters, in Omak, WA. Besides a few items, was hoping to meet ‘Tyler’ of Spilt Milt Productions. Check out his fishing video channel on YouTube. This guy has been making awesome videos for some time now.
Sure enough, I bumped into him, and he was helpful with giving me a few lake options for Northern, Idaho.
Today I went way up to Robinson lake, near the border.
The lake has a very nice launch and day use area, picnicking, etc. I started out throwing top water frogs. Had 2 blow ups pretty quickly. Threw some whacky rigged Senkos, Watermelon. Caught just 1 LMB, 1.5 lbs/Senko. Fish on frog came off. Went into the upper lake area, much cleaner mud bottom. Cast flys towards shore, worked the shoreline, but no trout via the fly rod. Well, I did troll a gold Mag Lip, —- on a full sinking line/fly rod, (tip of the hat to TMBob)- had a quick release of a small trout. Saw some people in a boat doing well on small trout, bait fishing.
So, my fishing wasn’t that great really.
But now, for the rest of the story... man oh man, this Sandpoint, Bonner’s Ferry, and North... this is amazingly beautiful country! It is SO clean and pristine. You go by lush green spaces and beautiful streams. After coming out of 55 years in Seattle, it golden here. There is NO litter, and parking EVERYWHERE! You almost don’t need to look when crossing the street in Sandpoint. People are just nice.
I am shell shocked coming from Seattle to this place.
OK, sorry for the ramble. I planned to fish tomorrow, but I’ve been in waders for 3 days. Maybe a break.
