This report isn't as much about the lake I was fishing (you will recognize it if you have been there, so not really a secret) but rather about being willing to try something different than what everyone else on the lake is doing if you aren't finding the bite you are expecting or hoping for. All NW Washington kokanee lakes are producing right now. Get out there and get after them!

The morning started very foggy, but that quickly burned off. Based on talking to folks I know that fished the lake the prior day, and the current water temps and time of year, 20-30 feet down is where I started. I fairly quickly got into 2 kokanee at 20 feet, and 4 cutthroat at 30 feet. Not targeting cutthroat, I moved that line at 30 feet up to 20 where I was getting kokanee. It slowed down immediately after landing those fish. I would up searching around with the other boats on the water, trying different depths in deeper water. Not finding the bite I was hoping for, I decided to explore some shallower water. Soon as I got into 30 feet of water, my sonar screen lit up with fish hanging out around 15-20 feet. Decided to drop my lines down and have a look. Sure enough, kokanee came 1 right after the other until I finished off my 10 fish limit, along with a bonus extra cutthroat which completed that limit as well. A double species limit! I haven't dome that before, and I wasn't even trying!

I ran my standard kokanee gear, 50/50 and 50/50 blue Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoons with 12 inches of leader following a DIck Nite clown pattern dodger and an Elgin Fishing dodger blank I have taped with a 50/50 diamond plate pattern. All combo's were successful!

Was great to meet fellow NWFR member Jeff Reynolds on the water as well as Isaiah from Reli Lures!.

Video shows the action from the day.

Thanks for the report! It seems like most are far too worried about sharing information. It’s great to have somebody point the way to good fishing.

Thanks for the comment! I typically will name the lake I am fishing, but right now all of the kokanee lakes are fishing better than I have seen in a long time, its all about getting out and doing it!
