First week or so of fishing for COHO in MA-10 has been fantastic! Caught some, lost some, released some. Fish are not big, generally from 2-4lbs but they put up a pretty good scrap on light tackle. Bigger Coho not due for another month or two.
We targeted the general Meadow Pt and north a bit area. Marked a couple hot spots. Thats were they were. Where they will be tomorrow is anybody's guess. They definitely move around with the tides. Couldnt think of a reason to go elsewhere. Incoming or outgoing tide didnt seem to matter. Fish were in 200-500 fow and consistently 65 ft on the cable. They can be tough to find, and we covered the water, but once you find them its game on. And BTW there are some really nice Blackmouth out there also.
Gear that worked was just about everything. 3" BCP herring pattern, sguid/hoochie with herring strip, Ace Hi fly with herring strip, FlashyFish spoons, Coho Killers, Bucktail flies etc. Little shorter leader than for Chinook, 35 inch total leader length seems to put good action on whatever you are using. Flashers were the usual Red Racer but I dont think color of flasher is a big factor. Speed was 30-45 degrees on the cable with a 12lb ball.
Tight lines
Randy
