Fished both Saturday 6/22 and Sunday 6/23 for Skagit sockeye in Mt. Vernon from our boat. Followed the great tips in this thread from several years ago (thanks Steelheading360). http://www.northwestfishingreports.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=21825

Both days we anchored up in about 3.5 feed of water, and we fished off the deep side of the boat in 4-5 feet of water. We plunked with 3 ounces of weight, a size 6 spin-n-glo in the chrome/pink tiger stripe pattern with pink mylar wings, and 3 small beads above double hooks with a whole small sandshrimp rigged as in that post above. Used some Mike's gel scent in shrimp (the bright pink one). Saturday I got 1 at 7:15 and another at 7:45. Sunday my dad got a couple strikes before I did, but didn't land anything. I got the first one at 7:30 and the second at 9:00. I'd estimate them at 4 to 8 lbs. The smaller 2 put up an amazing fight, jumping half a dozen times including nearly jumping over our anchor line.

Remember to dress like an onion! It may be summer, but it was chilly, breezy and drizzling all morning. I think the cloud cover really helps keep the bite going after first light.

I got 2 each day, my dad had a few good hits but they just wouldn't hook themselves like mine did. That was it. I saw 1 other boated on Sunday, and maybe a half dozen caught on shore on Saturday.

Do you know if there closing it off for the tribes this weekend? or will it be open friday-sunday? i really wanna get out there and catch a sockeye! I've never got one and i've been fishing the skagit the last 6 years. I usually don't try for the sockeye because there just so far and few of them that run. Also i don't have a boat so getting to those good spots that only boats can get to is not and option for me. not to mention the few sandy banks are always packed i mean have you seen youngs bar! Anyways Nice catch man!

The last notice I saw said it was closed Thursday Friday this week and Monday Tuesday next week, so open Saturday Sunday. I noticed a few fish landed on the big wide bar below Young's bar, so if you want to avoid the crowd go there - there's room for over 100 fishers down there.
