I do not post much but this one is funny. Snapped a new Kok rod on the second fish (they replaced it no problem) so had to bust out the 1.5 foot little gag Shakespeare rod. Had the little spinning reel on it that it came with. Let out a bunch of line, slapped it on the downrigger and stood proud. To my surprise it started going off... then kept up with the other 3 rods in the boat. I would not bust it out for Kings but... I will be putting on a better reel and keep that bad boy in the truck.

Weather was great, I limited out with the help of the mini rod. My buddy got 6 but his were pigs so quality over quantity for him. They were hitting from 60 to 40 down, usually go around 40 back.

I snapped a rod fishing 2 hours from home on the river a few years ago and always keep an extra. One time I snapped my salmon rod and caught a 11lb coho on a 4ft ultra light trout rod that was in my truck! What a fight it was haha

It's kinda funny how much we ( I ) have invested in rods and reels...... The <$10 spare trout spinning combo rod stuffed into the bottom of my rod locker has kept up plenty well when needed. I hate it when fish bite the cheap rod!

Some day I'm gonna find a use for the 21ft telescopic ebay spinning rod I keep stuffed in there. Completely useless, but I keep telling myself someday I'm gonna need that thing for something.?! Just in case.... Lol!

@sideburns with a 21' rod who needs sideplaners. Might have more practical use them first thought.

The idea of a 21ft rod sounds good until you try to use it, tangles and tip wraps constantly. Trolling it out the side of the boat, any rocking of hull tosses the lure around violently. It only gets worse when you actually have a fish on the end of it. Pretty much a novelty item, terribly designed flex. The little flexible ice rods that the op talked about are actually pretty useful, ive seen people vertically jig with them quite a bit.
