This report actually covers several days of fishing while on our 2 week vacation to Montana. We did the usual visits to Yellowstone, Museum of the Rockies, Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, etc. and decided to take the boat and try some fishing while there. The rivers was generally still running very high and the flyfishing just wasn't much of an option. We went intending to try some of the Walleye and Trout fishing on Canyon Ferry Reservoir near Helena. Apparently they are experiencing an over-population of Walleye so we thought we'd help clear some of them out. The daily limit is 20 Walleye per day! Being a new lake for us we generally trolled #5 and #7 cranks in a searching pattern knowing that we would also have a shot at Trout as well. Of the 6 days we fished the lake we averaged 12 walleye apiece after the first day of figuring out where they were. We also usually caught about 4 nice Trout per day as well. The walleye were all small in the 12 - 15" range so it's apparent they're overpopulated. The Trout were generally on the 3 - 4' range and tasty. Only have a couple of pics from our first day learning the lake.

Also, be aware of the Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) requirements for the state and be sure to stay in compliance. We got a free wash and dry every time we pulled out of Canyon Ferry thanks to Montana F&W.

Should be 3 - 4 lb range but when I tried to go back and change/correct it (and a couple of other grammatical errors) the website wouldn't populate on the edit screen and I didn't feel like rewriting the whole thing. The pic is actually a smaller one.
