Haven’t ever fished Riffe from a boat. It had always been at the dam with a bobber. After reading the reports I decided to go and try this fishery. Stayed at Mossyrock Park (family loved it) and my dad and I launched our boat around 6:30am. Started trolling immediately and hooked 3 right away. Two subsurface 15-20 feet with 4oz cannonball and 1 at the surface while setup was waiting in the water to be clipped to downrigger. Slowed for a bit on coho but Kokanee kept us busy. Not very big but fun to catch and release. Didn’t know if they counted in your limit so we released them all. At about 11AM my kids joined us on the boat and they were my luck charms. Caught rest of our limits within an hour and my daughter wanted to catch one and that was enough for her :) Ended up with 11 coho and a lot of smiles. If it wasn’t for the earlier reports I wouldn’t have made the trip. Going back Sunday with my brother-in-law to try it all over again. Thanks for all who reported. It helped us a ton.

There are no Kokanee in Riffe Lake. Read the regulations.

I do not see that at all in the regulations. It says SALMON Year round Landlocked rules apply. Can anyone else confirm no Kokes in Riffe?

Lesson learned! Researched deeper into online regulations and it is confirmed. No Kokes in Riffe. Thanks TwinLakesLeach for the info. Paper regulations do not say anything and that’s what I was going by. Maybe other had the same thought as I did.

Don't feel bad, a lot of people think the silvers (Coho) in Riffe are Kokanee. Tacoma power transports adult salmon into the Upper Cowlitz as part of a trap and haul program to restore salmon to the upper basin. The offspring produced from these adults can end up in Riffe Lake if they bypass the juvenile collection facility at Cowlitz Falls Dam (through spill or turbines). Glade to see you are getting kids out fishing and enjoying time with your dad. Cheers!
