Cowlitz River summer steelhead fishing has been steadily improving over the past week or so, disproving any previous theories about it going to be an average to less than average run size by yours truly haha! We have been finding fish in all the classic holes between above Blue Creek and Toledo early in the day, then in true summer run fashion they seem to move to the faster water at the ‘head-ins’ of deep pools as the day wears on and the Sun gets more overhead. Free drifting small beads, yarn balls, bait and even throwing spinners across fast water has been the ticket, and I’d expect the fishing to be worth a trip at the very least into mid August.
