I have been able to make several trips since my last report. The kokanee are still pretty prevalent but some days we got to work pretty hard to scratch out our limits. They really are scattered all over and can be caught in areas where no fish appear on the fish finder. I think the Kokanee are getting used to the warmer water and have established their roaming depths. I’ve been finding them a little shallower than I have in the previous weeks. This week I fished my lines between 40 and 60 feet resulting in lots of limits. Pink has been the hot color for me this week, but that can change from day to day. One thing i do that increases my catch ratio is this: discard factory hook rigs and retie my own. I like to run 2 single #2 Gamakatsu on #12lb maxima mono. Sometimes I get in a hurry and throw something on fresh out of the package, and soon regret my hasty decision.

I am running Kokanee trip for the next few week if you like to join me, feel free to contact me. Remember you can only keep 2 Kokanee with an intact adipose fin. Not all anglers were present in several of my photos.

What is the range in size of the Kokanee your catching? Fish look huge in your pictures.........like 16" - 22"? What length of leaders do you like to run? With or without a colorodo blade or smile blade in front of your pink lure?

Good job out there.

My wife just landed the largest measured 20”. Not as many 17-19” caught last week, but seeing lots of beautiful 15,16” fish. As far as blades go I’m really liking the narrow profile of the willow blade. 17” leaders are working for me which is a surprise as I typically run24-30” in the summers.

Thank you, we bleed em and get them in an ice bath ASAP. Any heat exposure and their scales really start falling off. Sending home a quality product is important to me. Good luck out there and stay hydrated.

Do you find that having a spinning willow blade in front of your lure takes away from side to side motion of the dodger used? What is your opinion of using smile blades vs a willow or colorodo blade?

Thanks for your replies.

I imagine that any bladeyou use will add additional drag to your lure and reduce its actions slightly behind a dodger. Leader length behind your dodger Is probably though biggest factor along with the stiffness of your leader in determining what type of action your lure will receive from your dodger. As far as what style of blade to use?I leave those big decisions up to the fishes.I typically start throwing out what I think will work, and then narrow my offerings to what the fish want.
