3 Aug 19 at Banks lake

Took my buddy Jay out to Banks to try and find some summertime walleyes. We launched out of Osborne Bay and headed out to the main lake where we encountered a bit more wind than anticipated. We motored down to the million dollar mile to do a little trolling along the weed edge. The wind as blowing white caps out of the northwest so we gave up and went to look for calmer waters. We headed back to Osborne Bay and trolled smiley blades; although we did get a few bites we wee never able to set the hook into anything. After about an hour we headed back out to the main where the wind had finally settled down. We trolled the big flat off the southwest part of steamboat rock and were only able to troll up one walleye; granted it was 11.5 lbs. 32 inches and came out of 41 FOW on a red smiley blade. We headed back down to the million dollar mile and after much searching found a few nice keepers in 26-36 FOW, all were caught on a red smiley blade as well. For the last hour or so we jigged the big hump out in the middle of the lake just to the west of steamboat; it turned out to be the best action of the day by far. A red jig head with a watermelon red flake swim bait turned out to be the key. We caught six more eyes including an 8 lb. 30 inch stud. We never caught any dinks, all 11 eyes were between 16.5 and 32 inches; we kept the 9 eaters and released the 2 big fish.

Not a great day for numbers but the size definitely made the day a 5.
