8/15/2019 6:00:30 PMWow. Jaws type suspense in your story telling. I really get the selfie photo problem. Caught a giant smallie on a top water one fall and it sounded like a giant loud toilet flush. It was a 22.5 inch at 7.35 pounds so figure how big yours might have been.

8/15/2019 9:06:52 PMYeah, I might be a little conservative on the weight, though it didn't seem to quite have the largemouth-like girth at that length...where did you catch your big smallie? If we go by your fish, mine should be well over 7 even if it wasn't super fat.

8/15/2019 9:57:52 PMYes on all your observations. I usually get about 2/3 of a big fish in the selfie if I am by myself and call it good. Especially hard when they are thrashing about and trying to get them back into the water quickly. I went up to !2# fluorocarbon at the end of my 25 lb braided. Haven't broken off anything yet in freshwater. 12 lb is almost the same size diameter as the 10lb. Everything loves to eat smolts. Sea run cutthroat munch them in large amounts. So although bass do, everything else just about also. Seen a lot of craw parts and some other small fish from smallies such as bluegill fry. Are you sure they were all salmon smolts?
