We launched early from Shilshole so we could catch morning bite and the tide change. Started off Jeff Head at 5:15am and had our first hookup - a large female coho right at sunrise. We used a red racer flasher with a purple hoochie to start. Switched to a purple haze flasher and landed a couple more fish, but pinks. Decided the purple flasher was a bad move since we were targeting pinks and moved to a silver on white hot spot flasher and motored over toward the oil docks. Caught one more silver and another pink then things went dry for a good couple hours. We finally decided to head back and troll through fish haven (right off Richmond Beach) and we pulled through a big school of pinks, landing one right away - kept after that last fish for our boat limit of 6, but just couldn't get it in the boat. Hooked 7 or more but kept losing them - I think their mouths are too soft and we were trolling too fast so pulled through their lips. We ended up calling it a day around 1 and settled with 5 fish for the boat. Photo shows 3 pinks on top and the two coho on the bottom.

Best lure of the day was white flasher with purple haze hoochie tipped with herring strip. 28" leader length and most caught around 40 feet using the downriggers.

Oops - I meant we were targeting coho and the purple haze flasher was getting pinks - not the other way around. Silver holograph pattern on white flasher with purple haze hoochie tipped with herring strip is what we use for coho.

The fish haven that shows up on your chart just south of Richmond Beach is Boeing Creek "reef", the state dropped a bunch of concrete from a bridge demolition in the area to create fish structure and it is apparently a popular scuba location as a result. I've pulled up a lot of rock sole and some rock fish there while targeting Ling or Cabezon (never landed a legal Ling or Cabezon there FWIW) and if my kid and I are getting skunked elsewhere we often go there just to catch and release for fun and to say we caught something. Great to know there are some pinks congregating in that spot... may have to go out to see if they are still hanging out there!
