Aug 31st - a classic example of how to go from being the Master Fishermen to the Master Baiters in 6 hours.
We motored out of Shilshole just before sunrise. There were a LOT of boats fishing just off the buoy. We got our rigs set up - a tipped hoochie at 60 feet on one and a coho-killer spoon at 40 feet on the other. Just as we pulled right into the thick of the pack, we had a double-down at 6:35am first on the coho-killer then on the hoochie within 5 seconds of each other. We were within earshot of 10-15 other boats that didn't have anything on their lines yet! We landed both of them like pros and patted each other on the back looking forward to getting our limit and getting out before 8am.
The next 6 hours were miserable with nothing but 1-2 lb. shakers constantly hitting and causing us to reset and re-tip our hoochies, or we'd be caught up in weeds, needing to clear the crap off. We went from a 5 star day at 7am and lost a star every 2 hours until 1pm when we pulled the parachute to avoid any further insult to our egos. We even spotted a sea-lion hanging out on the buoy...likely disgusted with the small number or size of fish available for eating
Still, we ended up with two 5-6 lb coho, not all was lost.
