Fast Action!!

Ryan, Allysa, and I Launched out of Mukilteo just before daybreak, lines soaking by 6 am. As per usual, we were stacking a pair of spoons on the left cable while running a mini hoochie off the the right. We didn’t get bit until sunrise, but then it was on!!

We quickly realized that the stacked rods were going to be an issue. The top rod got hit at 30’ and it was fish on! But I couldn’t get it unclipped because the fish had fouled us with the bottom rod, set to 45 feet! Fish still on, we tried to resolve that issue, then the right clip popped off with a double!! Unfortunately it was off after a couple lurching tugs; our trolling speed was so slow that the fish was probably never properly hooked. Then we lost the other fish too! oops! No more rod stacking, the bites on! Ope!! Another fish on, this time in the net!

Then it was fast action, and we had 4 landed and a bunch lost by 8:00 am. A little lull blanked us for an hour or so, but a flurry of biters showed up and got us to a 6 fish limit before 9:30!

We didn’t change gear- a green and white Coyote 3.0 36” behind a white Gibbs 11” flasher on the left and a pink mini hoochie 20” behind a big shooter flasher worked magically! Speeds of 1-4 mph caught fish, but we averaged about 2.2 MPH. The median cable setting at hookup was 48 feet, but depths from 30-75 feet got bit.
