The nets came out Friday and I'd heard of a few successful reports earlier in the week despite the nets, so figured Saturday morning might hold promise. Launched the kayak with a friend out of Kirkland just prior to 7a. Trolled maglips headed south in 50'-80' of water. Nothing was showing up on the sonar. Talked to a couple other boats that were seeing the same. Thought it might be worth headed towards Hunts Point as there were boats over there, but pretty soon those boats headed our way and stopped to ask if anything was going on in our area. Sounds like finding anything on the sonar was a challenge.

Found some marks in 25' of water, so tried targeting them, but resulted in two perch, so guessing they were not salmon. At least we didn't get skunked! :)

Tried heading out deeper on the way back to the launch, but never did run across anything on the sonar. Covered a fair amount of water.

I didn't expect it to be on fire, but didn't expect it to be quite so dead.

The tribal netting patterns changed dramatically this year and I'm unaware of any explanations. Used to be evening only sets, 5 days a week, starting in early October. This year the nets came in much earlier -- Sept 22 -- and the fishing pattern was 24 hrs a day every day except Saturday. This puts the Bear Creek kings (which are certainly still in the area on Sept 22) right in the teeth of the nets -- which is a complete disaster. If any of you have encountered kings and know the dates, please post here.

Definitely remember some king encounters mentioned in past Lk Wa coho reports. Sawlty_Dawg, do you know how long this netting schedule is going to continue? Is it going to change shortly or last through October?

The net-fishery is open ended currently, Sundays at 8AM thru Fridays (mid day?)...
