Decided to head to the upper Green River right below the hwy. 18 bridge this weekend, and when I got there, the river was packed, with fish and people. Unfortunately, most of the fish were pinks. Drifted eggs most of the time, with only one real bite. It's hard to drift your bait past loads of pinks to get to coho without snagging or flossing the pinks. Landed 5 or 6 pinks, all which were returned to the water unharmed, because I figured that even though they were hooked in the mouth, they were most likely flossed. Probably would have had poor meat quality. If you can give any tips on fishing for coho with eggs, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like a pretty good day despite the crowds and pinks...I don't fish crowds if I can avoid them and so I fish lower in the system below Auburn...Heck, I'll hike miles if I have to in order to avoid combat fishin'. Something about being out on an open stretch of water that you have to yourself or just a few people is really the kind of fishing I enjoy the most. I'm happy just being there in those times.

As to catching coho and not pinks...Not sure of any tricks there...Just fish where the coho are...That's all I've been encountering down lower in the system.

Goodluck!

Upper/Mid River Egg Fishin Tip (regardless of species): use lots of sulfites :)

Thanks. I was using more of a sweet cure so I'll try to use more sulfites.
