My buddy Jay and I had another good day of catching on Potholes. We launched at first light out of the state park, the cleaning station is closed, and headed to some of our favorite humps. We noticed an awful lot of trailers in all of the launches; it was immediately apparent why. It sounded like downtown Baghdad during Desert Storm. My guess is there were a lot of shell shocked ducks and geese on Saturday morning.

Back to fishing. Within the first five minutes we had the skunk off and two nice keeper walleyes were in the live well. Jay was throwing a Norisada blade bait and I was once again throwing a jigging spoon. We worked the humps for a few hours and ended up putting some quality eyes in the boat. We also used a second rod hanging over the side to catch some nice bluegills. Once that bite died we started trolling smile blades. This weekend a green blade with green and white beads produced best. Our best depth was 23-30 FOW. The water temp dropped about two degrees from the prior weekend.

All told we caught about 30 eyes and kept 9, 15-20 bullheads, 6 perch, and a dozen bluegills. A good day of catching was had. Depending on the weather we will probably try Potholes again next weekend.

Sounds like a great day. It's good to see a report on something besides salmon. :)

I need depth finder I guess. Son and I were there catching bass lady weekend but I would like to put him in some quanity of fish like that. I don't just want to go out and guess where a jump us. Way to o big if an area out there. I know about where to troll. Lol I just head out to where all the walleye guys are at. Any tips on an area to find a hump?

Bazz - depending on when you are going next (end of the month) I could possibly show you exactly where I have been fishing. The humps can be hard to find without a depth finder but not impossible. If you do find them they can be really good areas for casting jigs, blades and spoons first thing in the morning. Catching the blue gills requires nothing more then drop shotting a piece of nightcrawler over the side of the boat while casting for walleyes; gotta love the two pole endorsement.

And yes it is nice to see something other than a another report of folks catching slimers.

Hi I'm loving your report. Can you tell me if you use the same strategy and techniques in May?
