Was planning on fishing early that morning but that didn't happen and so decided to hit it later that afternoon/evening. Brought my old man along too.

Didn't have but about an hour or so to fish and so I hit a spot where I figured there might be a few on the move and sure enough they were there.

First couple casts with eggs I had bites but couldn't get them to stick. Starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I know my eggs are working and I'm getting bites but having a hard time hooking them despite using size 1 and 1/0 hooks.

If anyone has any float and egg tips, I'm all ears.

I've been running a 3/4oz float with a 5/8th oz inline sinker along with a weighted 2 1/2 - 3' leader.

The fish were running in the slack water on the far side of the river...Even up in the trees. Was hard to get a good drift through there and ran out of daylight to really give it a good effort.

I'm convince that if I would have had more time, I would have brought home some fish.

Oh well, making memories with friends and loved ones is what it's all about anyway.
Bringing home fish is a bonus. Thankful to get out, enjoy some fresh air with my old man and give it a shot.

Oh, when I got home I looked at the hydrograph and noticed the river level had been on a rise. Wasn't gonna let that stop me though...Rising river or not, sometimes we just have to fish when we can.

Tight lines y'all!

yep, river is pretty blown out now! https://www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/river/station/flowplot/flowplot.cgi?lid=AUBW1
Stood on the whitney bridge the other night and watched salmon getting blasted downstream by the high water. Maybe kings or chums, hard to tell.

Yep, she's up pretty good right now. I was out there this morning for a few hours checking it out. Wonder how this high water is gonna affect the pink run two years from now. Looking forward to getting out again here in a few days once it drops.

Not sure if more water is better for salmon.... always?..... or if the high current will blow the eggs downstream and get eaten? Seems that some species spawn in side channels and ponds more than others, pinks seem to spawn anywhere, this will effect the survival outcome I'm sure. Anyone else have a more scientific answer?
