Thursday was a tough on the water. My dad and my fishing partner put in at Seven bays and motored down about 12 miles. Lines in water by 8:30am. We were fishing 5 rods, 4 with various flasher fly combos. and one of my go to plugs. caught 1 rainbow about an hour in on the plug. Fished for about another 40 min no bites so we moved up river just down from Lincoln. Fished this area for about 3 hours picked up 3 rainbows and decided to troll back to seven bays. Caught 1 more close to the launch. 2 of the 5 fish had adipose fin and were released unharmed. All 5 fish were caught on the same plug, I dont know what happened over the last week or so but the fishing sure dropped off. 40+ fish days to 5.. Are other people having the same problem? Thanks to all that post reports, it is very helpful. All that being said it was awesome being able to be on the water with my dad and close friend

Water level dropped about 4' in the past week - that does tend to spook them most of the time - just a thought, not a
grand pronouncement of the reasons why fish behave the way they do.

Sounds like you came back up and were fishing just above us in the Red Runner. Slow fishing when the high point of the day is the heated cabin.
Were you running side planners?

Yes Heated cabin,,,, I hate the cold. Used side planers half the day without a bite.

We were fishing from 8 to 20 ft and didn't mark hardly any fish. On 12/15 when we were there we marked fish consistently and boated over 20 fish. Well next time I guess.

Big changes in reservoir level do affect the bite. Level was 1283.2 last Sunday and dropped to 1279.4' 10pm last night. Hydrologic forecast shows level will continue dropping to 1277.73' Thursday before gradually climbing to 1278.37' next Sunday.

Sure makes a person wonder where they go though. On 12/15 we marked lots of fish, last Thursday hardly any. I wonder how far a RB will move in 24- 48 hours. Maybe the lake dropping triggers a move like cold water does for Salmon. Maybe there at Kettle, now there is an idea.

The kokanee follow the food source (zooplankton) and since their primary food source is at mercy of current, I'd think they'll be further downstream than before. The RB don't feed so much on zooplankton, even so, I've never figured out why they seem to be affected by changes in reservoir level except to say my personal experience has been, in general, rising water conditions turn the bite off whereas dropping did not. Exception being large transitions in either direction (more than 1') in reservoir level seem to shut it all down. There's been a 5' drop in reservoir level since Sunday, that's pretty big. As of 6am level was 1278.2' and the current hydrologic forecast is predicting 1279.04' by 10am, another big change in a short time. I get hydrologic reports from here - https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/river.php?wfo=OTX&wfoid=18722&riverid=204540&pt%5B%5D=144992&allpoints=144991%2C144992%2C145035%2C145041%2C145048%2C145051%2C145270%2C143450%2C150895%2C146745&data%5B%5D=all
