Super day fishing at Blue lake once we figured out what the fish wanted. We started out with spoons and spinners, and tried them at different points in the day with no luck. My son also tried worms under a bobber, no luck. I saw some rising fish and tried a black midge dry, no good. Tried some coronomid emergers, and nymphs like TDC and Copper Johns, no good. The fish wanted medium sized olive nymphs. The Heather Nymph shown was the hot fly, size 10 3xl. An olive Wooly Bugger with marabou and flash tail was the other good one. Once we started fishing flies about 8:30 we had good action until we left at 11. There are a good mix of holdovers from last spring, ripening to spawn, and smaller fish from last fall. Fished about 3-10' deep, dry line, with short strip pulls. Air temp dropped a lot overnight and was about 28-30 until 10 when it got above freezing. Water 30's, and a little cloudy from runoff. Had to clean guide ice before each cast, even after sun came out. Best bite was just after a momentary breeze would let up. Started cloudy but got rather nice around 10ish.
Fished the Touchet River in Waisburg and Dayton twice last week, maybe 7 hrs. Pit tags are now going off each day, and I actually saw one swimming up the grassy river edge. Really muddy below Dayton and too high to fish very well except behind stuff at the edges (where the fish are), that's why we went trout fishing instead.
