Good day all, had an early off day from work so decided to head out of Washington park for a couple hours in the evening.
Left the launch at 2pm and headed over to Lopez flats as outgoing tide was at 230ish. Didn’t mark any bait or fish. Have been doing ok on an outgoing tide here lately, but not today.
I headed back to the boat launch right before sunset but decided to try Fidalgo head for a couple minutes. All the other boats were gone and the tide was still outgoing quite swiftly. Could hardly stay on a set contour line and my downrigger line had much to steep of an angle. I was attempting to follow a 90 ft curve with 95 ft of line out on the wire. I was using a coho killer Irish cream with green and glow flasher. 40 in leader length.
As I was nearing the steep cliff on the south side of Fidalgo head my line popped free. Since my downrigger line was humming like a jet, I figured I was just moving to fast. Then the line started peeling. Netting alone is not fun and took me way to long to bag it. Eventually I had a beautiful 13 lb clipped fish in the boat and headed back to the launch. Belly and mouth was chock full of candle fish.
Not sure why I started posting here, just hope it gives people some interest in wanting to go out outside relax and fish. Tight lines.
