Fished at Spring Lake today to get some fish. Started off this morning fly fishing at Deer Lake, the only lake with few people as it's a 1/2 mile walk in, with another gentleman, and neither of us did any good. After a couple hours we both decided to leave, nearly at the same time. I haven't had luck at Rainbow since it was rebuilt, and I didn't see any action, so I went to look at Blue Lake and it was opening weekend shoulder to shoulder. Lots of campers, kids, dogs high-school age, and folks like myself, a little older. It looked crazy but everyone was getting along and having a good time. I went down to Spring Lake.
The general consensus is the lakes have been hit so hard for a week, they have seen everything, that the fishing was slow. They were also seemingly leery of taking a bait. Soft nibbles. They would tow a bobber around then let go the second tension as applied. Did the same with a slip sinker rig, but that's how I finally got them. Had to leave slack in the line, the minute they felt resistance they dropped the bait before I could get a hookset. I got one on green power eggs, all the others came on white. Regular worms, power maggies and power worms were ignored. Later on I tried a drop of Mikes Shrimp sent on the eggs. This was the ticket for me. I got 3 in the last hour between 4 and 5 o'clock, and nibbles every cast. The gal next to me was using a white power egg with Pautskee's Balls o fire. She had the set up. Saw a few jumbo's caught also.
