Got there about 7:00 for the Corona Opener. Tons of boats, launch was full; I got the last parking spot. Cloudy and light wind. They stocked this lake with 600 Triploids and 5,200 1lb Rainbows. It was a challenge to get your line out without getting a fish. No matter what lure I used, WHAM, fish on. I got my first monster trolling a wooly bugger about 6 feet deep on lead line. I have a new Kokanee pole, and I knew the fish was a beast when I heard the drag screaming, and it was making 30 foot runs. It took me about 5 minutes to land it; a 6.8 lb monster. I didn't use bait, because I knew there would be a ton of smaller fish, and I wanted to catch and release so I could target the big boys. I could have limited at least 10 times; it was ridiculous how the fish would eat anything you threw in the water; I lost count of the times I had 2 fish on at the same time. Finally got into 2 more big ones in the afternoon. It cleared up and was sunny, so I went deeper with some Poulsen Cascade Lake Trollers and Arrow Dodger tailed by a Paulina Peak pink and white spinner hoochie. This was on a heavier salmon pole, so when I heard the drag buzzing on that pole, I knew it was at least a 5lb fish, which they both were.
Even the "smaller" fish were very nice sized in many cases. I kept 2 small ones that were wounded and bleeding badly before I could release. One guy at the ramp had a nice 3.5+ lb bass he had landed by mistake on a wedding ring. One of my 5lb fish had a large bass hook through it's lip; he must have broken someones line. It took me a minute to figure out what the heck was going on.
Every person I saw limited, shore or boat.
