Alder Lake 5-15-2020
Lake level 1,201.26 feet of elevation (maximum of 1,207 ft) It was mostly cloudy. The water was almost like glass. The temperature of the water was 60 degrees. There were several rigs in the lot but the fishing pressure was light.

I caught my only fish at 17 feet on the downrigger. Kim had one get off by the boat that was deeper but she caught her 2 just under the surface using the longlining method, only dodger for weight.

We fished 8-11:30am.

My fish finder acts weird at this lake. It sees my downrigger balls a lot. In a pattern. If I go toward the dam it won’t read bottom. At varies points it will go back to reading the bottom. Last week when at Clear Lake there wasn’t any problem with it. This led me to think it was just Alder Lake. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have the same depth/downrigger problem sometimes too. Maybe softer bottom lakes with weaker returns show the sonar return from the downrigger ball more in relation to the bottom return.....? I switched from balls to pipe weights made from 1 1/2 copper pipe filled with lead. Since the view of the weight from the fishfinder transducer is smaller (vertical downrigger pipe weight) It happens a lot less.... but still happens occasionally. I also have a horizontal torpedo style downrigger weight.... I use that weight on the opposite side of the transducer. Longer downrigger arms can help this issue also!
