This morning at 3AM the wife and I loaded up and headed 2 hours north to fish lake Stevens for my first of the year and her first time ever. We got lines in at approximately 5:40. I set our spread between 20-40ft at a 1.5 mph trolling speed. 5 minutes into fishing my wife hooks into her 1st ever kokanee on a sunrise tube behind a wild thing dodger at 20 ft. She starts talking to the fish as she always does and lands it no problem. We get her rod back in the water and all of a sudden I smell something electrical burning. I race to get the battery cover off and find that the inline fuse holder to my trolling motor is smoking and the plastic part of the fuse is melting. Not good! I unplug and turn everything off. Thankfully no fire. I then see a few marks 50-60 feet. I drop a rod to 52 ft, boom fish on one of my nerkabugs. We trolled for about another hour and a half but could not get back to that slow speed I was looking for with the main motor and got zero bites. We decided to call it a day today but we will be back. I gave the report a 3 because our trip was kind of cut short but my wife did bag her first kokanee. Hope everyone got out on the water this weekend, tight lines!
