Started off on the west side hammering the shoreline, targeting 1'-5' of water. A pretty good breeze on the water but didn't see any cotton at all, so that was nice.
Tied up only 3 rods, a small swimbait, dropshot and a t-rig worm.
With the wind, I figure I'll start with the swimbait. Found a #1 SMB off the end of a dock.
Made a cast a couple of feet from the bank. A rotation or 2 and I get a nice strike. It pops up briefly but couldn't tell species yet. I get it closer to the boat and it makes a half body leap out of the water. I see it's a football shaped LMB, and my lure comes flying back at me. Boo. Looked like a fat 2-3# LMB.
I stayed with the swimbait, didn't even touch the dropshot or t-rig until about the last 30 mins of the day.
Finished with 6 SMB, with biggest @ 2.35# in post spawn condition. Others were the cookie cutter 13"-14" size. 1 rockbass. And almost 1 LMB. Deepest fish caught in about 7' of water. All on swimbait.
