Decided to try trolling cranks above buoy 5 in the main river channel. Launched out of Porky solo, couldn't find anyone to go with me, and headed up river. This time of year the craw-fish are shedding their skins and appear to be green and orange; so matching the hatch I pulled Rapalas, and flicker shads containing those colors. Caught two in the first five minutes and for the next two and a half hours I boated another 18 eyes. By 0830 the walleye bite died but the stupid trout bite started; I caught at least 10 trout up to 20 inches and the pests wouldn't leave my crank baits alone. Only caught one dink eye, everything else was 16-21 inches. I didn't need to keep a limit so I only put six nice eaters in my livewell. I was off the water by noon and finished cleaning my catch by about 1230. I talked to a couple of people from Cheney at the launch who didn't have much luck; I gave them eight of my fillets and kept four. I was going to give them away to someone at work anyway so I was able to help someone else take home a meal.
