Met up with a fellow kayaker and hit Lake Samish for Fathers Day. Soon as I got on the water, I noticed a lot of fish right around the 50-55 foot mark on the sonar. Dropped my first line down to 45 feet, and as I was letting the 2nd line out, fish on the 1st line. Great sign! The fish unfortunately got off on the way in, but this gave me the confidence that what I was marking was what I needed to go after. I kept 1 line in the 45 - 55 foot range, and the other line I moved up and down between 20 - 50 feet. Nothing happened for the most part for about the next 2 hours. It was frustrating marking all of those fish deep and not getting anything, and trying up and down on the other line with nothing to show for it as well. I changed out patterns on the Elgin Fishing God's Tooth spoons, finally adding a Fire Tiger to 1 line, and moved it to where I was frequently seeing fish as well, which was about 30-35 feet. Set that line at 33 feet, and almost immediately got a fish on. For about the next 45 minutes it was 1 fish after another on that line. I had brought the other line up to the same depth, and wasn't even getting a sniff. I tried multiple colors on that line and still nothing. I eventually at the end had a moment to get another Fire Tiger on the line, and it immediately netted me my last fish. I had tried all of the same solid pattern colors that comprise the Fire Tiger, Orange, Green and Chartreuse, but nary a sniff. There was something about the combination of all 3 colors that the fish could not say no to.
Like I said, Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoons in the Fire Tiger pattern was crazy hot this day, with 12 inch leaders behind dick nite dodgers, 1 a clown pattern and the other moon jelly. Speed was between 1.0 - 1.2. It was a fairly windy day, so my speed did vary a lot, but that range seemed best.
Video shows the action from the day.
