Ucluelet, BC Fishing Report: June 24, 2020

Well tourism has really picked up in town. Sport boats are starting to slowly trickle into the marina. There are some nicer Chinook being brought in and there has also been consistent halibut fishing.

The Chinook have mostly been in protected water spots. We are mostly using small spoons and needlefish hutchies like you would expect this time of year. Silver horde 3 inch blue/silver have been working well. Just keep changing your depths as the fish are being caught in quite a few different ranges. The Chinook are mostly close to shore ranging from 8-25lbs.

The halibut fishing hasn’t been on fire, but has been consistent. One of our boats hit 9 halibut today by trolling on Big Bank. There is not much happening on Big Bank yet though and it will probably be a fishery happening starting mid July there. We have also been anchoring up for halibut in a few different spots. The bites have not been fast but the days have been rewarded with some decent sized chicken sized halibut.

The Coho have shown up which is normal for this time of year here. There is not a load around but the good news is that they are around inshore where we can keep both hatchery and wild Coho here. They are jumping on the same small spoons the Chinook are biting.

If you are wanting to come fishing in Ucluelet with us this summer we are at an accommodation shortage since the big resorts have not yet fully opened. You can check out Ucluelet-Info.com or get one of our fishing packages available at https://www.salmoneye.net/site/fishing-packages.html. We have very little ocean view accommodation but still have some cabins available.

Tight lines,
