My husband and I decided to take a little trip to Lake Merwin for a couple of days. Fishing was not "hot" but consistent through out the day on Friday. Quite a bit slower on Saturday but we only fished for 4 hours due to the 4th of July craziness on the lake. Friday we boated 17 kokanee ranging between 10"- 14" and two rainbow 17" & 20". Saturday we boated 8 kokanee ranging 12"-14". My friend, Jeff Reynolds gave me a couple of Soldier Soul's shrimp lures to try out. Most of the fish were caught using a Soldier Soul pink or red/glow shrimp with pink arrow flash dodger. All fish caught between 35'-45' on the wire with a 35' set back.
I spoke to a gentleman at the launch who said the rainbows are raised every year for a children's fishing event in July. Unfortunately due to COVID they were unable to have the event this year but released the rainbows anyways. My past experience with rainbows that big is they don't usually cut well. I was pleasantly surprised that both of them had nice firm pink meat. Should make for some good smoked trout.
Tight lines!
