The last day of a week off from work. No trip to Vancouver Island this year D/T covid but I did get to go on a lot of local fishing adventures thanks to my wife being so understanding!

Today I went out with my friend Robbie, getting a 6am start with lines in the water. We started at the north end of Lake WA running the gear down to 25-45 feet depths. Having learned from the trip a couple days ago we ran Old Goat lures with corn, 1.4 to 1.9 mph. The north end started us off with one nice 13.5" kok but there weren't a ton of meter marks so we pulled up the gear after an hour and headed to the south end of Mercer Island.

The bite was similar to a couple days ago, steady but not red hot. One thing that was different this time was of the 6 fish we encountered only one came on the deep rod, everything else was at 25 feet on the rigger. There were lots of marks in the 40-50 foot range but they were all non-biters today.

The Old Goat tandem spinner again got the job down on all but one fish. When I got home I did a little bead swapping to get some color combinations I like, but that said, out of the box these rigs flat out work. Fish them with confidence. It's not often we get something truly unique and new to use on fish. Old Goats are the real deal.

Mike: Those are some nice looking fish! Thanks for running the OG spinners and reporting the results!

Would be much nicer to be catching sockeye this time of year than chasing miniatures! It would be nice to see someone in your position use the pull to advocate for better management of the fisheries coming out of the Cedar! The canadians sure seem to have figured it out in the past decade. Can't help but wonder if our fish culture around Lake WA/Sammamish and Skagit/Baker have some fatal flaws.

I appreciate you think I have some kind of pull... I don't. In any case, this is a kokanee report, not a sockeye report.

Excuse me for souring a report on a great day of fishing. I hope you understand I only want to advocate for our collective interest as recreational/subsistent fisherman. I'm sure you have a forum for rants like mine....

If you think the Canadians have it together on lake fisheries, take a look at Kootenay Lake and the collapse of the fishery there.

Not the point. Referring specifically to our (state) fisheries management. More specifically, salmon fisheries. I also failed to specify the Canadian fish in question being the Columbia River sockeye (by and large, the only sockeye running through the columbia anymore). It's disappointing to see people so passionate about fishing uninterested in preserving our interest, as "sport" fisherman, in salmon throughout the state.

Thanks for the report! Do you fish the OG spinners behind a dodger or just by themselves? Thanks.

About 24" behind a small dodger. Just for added color and flash in the water, it has little action on the lure. The tandem spinners have plenty of bling going!

Great job! Looks like Lake WA is producing some nice kokanee.
