Such a great day on the water.
My son is home from college. He brought his GF with him, who has never fished other than 1 time with a worm and bobber.
We did not launch out of Shilshole until 0830. We also had the boat so loaded with crab pots that you could barely crouch into a seat.
I had put a lot of time into purchasing 2 new crab pots, all new buoy lines, new pole mounted buoys, and extra linked in lines for increased depth.
As I pulled into the 1st place to drop pot #1, it was a cluster on the boat deck...
So, do I say in public?
I threw the 1st pot in, and watched as it immediately sunk to the bottom WITH NO BUOY LINE attached to it! Thought I was going to die of embarrassment.
Anyway, fishing..
After dropping secured pots, we put our guest on some immediate flounder, for fun.
Then we sent out the usual Purple haze flasher and Green Splatter Back hootchie, with a small piece of brined herring added, and bloody garlic tuna stink. 15 min later rod goes off, son’s GF is landing 3lb rezzie.
I was like, “Girl got fish, crab in boat. Mission accomplished, we're done”. They say “drop it down dad”
Immediately i am dropping ball to 70’. (11:30 AM). Before the rod is back in the rod holder, it’s fish on! Limit for her!
On the crabbing.. man, MA 10 Shilshole/Carkeek has gone to crap x last 3 years. Prior to that it had been easy limits.
So again this year, it was few crab #’s, and 90% red rock, and mostly female dungies.
2 soaks, 3 pots, yielded 2 keeper dungies.
Great salmon time with newbie though. (-:
