Had a fun day fishing MA10 with Katie and Sean on Saturday. Beautiful day, nice water and surprisingly few boats for a Saturday. Cant say the catching was red hot but we did finally end the Chinook drought.
Launched Edmonds and started fishing our way south.
The cluster monkeys hit right out the gate. Major snarl on one rod and other side salmon rod snapped in half due to downrigger conflict (user error?). No spare salmon rods so broke out the trout stick with 12lb test. What the heck Coho on a trout rod is a blast. Got the wheels put back on the cart and Katie puts a nice Coho in the boat. Yeah we got this. Three hours later guess we dont got this, nothin.
Down around Boeing Creek the clip pops and the trout rod bends in half. Game on!!! Chinook on a trout rod. Fish headed for Canada and couple times thought I was going to get spooled. Not sure who was going to wear out first but finally got him to the net. Perfect job by Katie on the throttles and text book netting by Sean and we put a nice Chinook in the boat. It does take a team effort. Couldnt believe it was a hatchery Chinook.
Fish hit in 300 fow and 125 on the cable. Flo white squid with Ace Hi insert and herring strip got it done.
Couple more drive bys but that was it so headed home.
Tight lines
Randy
