I would ask you, what speed are you trolling, and what is your leader length? Are you tipping your hootchie with anything?
Also, going out at 7:00pm, leaves maybe 1.5 hrs til dark?
I prefer early AM start time. I generally expect the bite to slow way down or shut off by 10-10:30. I like 3.0-3.3 ish MPH. Also, if you have two rods out, use different flashers. I like the Purple haze for sure, but my 2nd one would be different. I like a green Gibbs flasher with red stripe. Also, I like to tip the hootchie with a tail piece of brined herring.
People catch coho on lots of stuff, but my recipe is always the same. The flashers I mentioned, 30-32”-ish leader, green splatter back hootchie tip with herring tail. I don’t fish in 350+ feet of water. If I am fishing coho, DR @ 40-60. 60-80, then I don’t want to have 300-600’ of water column below my gear. (Narrow the window)

8/22/2020 12:14:55 AMI appreciate all the very kind advice on here! I picked up some of the racing stripe green flashers. I heard enough good things about them to justify getting them on the boat. I will definitely try the bigger hoochies, I was rigged up for Resident Coho I think. I've got some splatterbacks on the boat and I just bought a pack of OAL12Rs. According to my GPS, I was trolling at around 3.5kts, but the boat felt faster. cable was definitely 45 degrees. When it comes to King Salmon, reading John Martinis's book and watching some videos, it appears the main difference is that they take the purple stuff less? I am hoping to give Kings a shot before the season ends.

8/21/2020 9:19:30 AMA great source of info is the NWFR Marine reports. Its a little clunky to figure out but worth the effort. Tons of good info I dont totally agree with quadfather but he wont totally agree with me either. In the afternoon the fish are generally deeper and probably out in deeper water. We have been catching around the 80-125 ft on the cable 200-300 fow. Speed I dont do mph. Mph is an irrelevant number. Looking for 45+/- degrees on the cable (15lb ball) fishing with or against the tide. Purple haze flasher is a go to. 30-35 inch leader with hoochies and about 42ish with spoons. Dont think a mini hoochie is the way to go. Run the 4 inchers. Use herring strips with the hoochie. Make sure hook placement is right at the end of the skirt. Keep at it. Learn something everytime out. We all get skunked so dont get discouraged if you come home empty.
